How to Earn Money for a Doll
Graphic coming soon

Set your eyes on that gorgeous AG you’ve been dying to get, but want or have to save up for it yourself? Not to worry. With these tips, you’ll be on the right start and hopefully reach your goal.

You can also try buying a used or secondhand doll. That way, you probably won’t spend as much, and you might get a retired doll!
***If you live outside the US and have different currency, compare your money to the US dollar to find the right prices to do this.***

Earning Money from Parents and Siblings
Remember, even the little jobs add up quickly!

โ€ขOffer to massage your parents.ย Parents will most likely be willing to pay $1 for fifteen minutes of a relaxing massage. You can do this while they’re sitting at a desk or computer. You can also do this in five-minute increments if you’d like so your fingers don’t fall off. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Doing multiple fifteen massages a day will earn dollars quick – trust me, I know! ๐Ÿ˜€
โ€ขClean rooms. Offer to completely cleanย up rooms in your home. Ask your parents what they would be willing to pay you to clean up a certain room. The cost will most likely differ depending on the size of the room.
โ€ขDo dishes. If that’s not already a required chore, see if your parents would pay you to do it.
โ€ขDo a sibling’s chores. (Works best if you have siblings. If you’re an only child, not so much. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) If your siblings’ chores are difficult, charge more. If it’s easy, charge less. The prices really depend on how easy/hard the chores are.

Earning Money from Friends and Other People, in Real Life and Online
โ€ขGood Old-Fashioned Lemonade Stands. You know how to do this one! With a parent’s permission,ย make lemonade and set up a table on the edge of your backyard. Don’t forget the cup, pricing, and lot’s of attractive signs. Works best on a hot day. ;D ๐Ÿ˜›
โ€ขGarage Sale.ย This is a great way to get rid of junk and earn cash. Get aย parent’s permission and help on this. Make signs, pick a nice-weathered day, make low-ish prices, and make the garage sale looks nice.
โ€ขAsk your parents about setting up an Etsy shop. Works especially good if you’re crafty. Sew/crochet/knit/make clothes or whatnot for dolls or anything at all. Like rainbow loom bracelets for dolls, different accessories, stuff for humans, jewelry, etc. Guess what? I will even advertise your Etsy on my site. For free. ๐Ÿ™‚
โ€ขAsk your parents about selling stuff on Ebay. Make everything bid-only – fast cash, almost guaranteed. Old AG stuff really sells. You could even try selling non-AG stuff.
โ€ขHave a YouTube? Put ads on it. YouTube will let you earn money for putting ads on your videos. If your videos have enough views, you’ll be able to do this! Be sure to ask a parent.
โ€ขHave a doll blog or site? Get sponsors! People will pay to have their dolly ad for the etsy shop or doll shop on your site. Contact the business and ask if they would like to be a sponsor and you will put their ad on your site for a small price. Get a lot of sponsors and the money adds up!
โ€ขTutor other kids in something you’re good at, most preferably a subject. Especially little kids so it’s easier. Charge $5 an hour or whatever seems reasonable. Parents will love you, especially if you’re good with kids. Be sure to ask both yours and the kid’s parents to do this!

Saving Money
โ€ขDon’t bring a lot of money with you if you go to the store, so you won’t be tempted to buy too much apart from what you really need.
โ€ขWhen you get birthday/Christmas money, save half or part of it. Maybe even all of it if you don’t have a savings account.
โ€ขDon’t spend it! That’s the big thing! If you’re going to save, spending it all won’t get you anywhere. It can be hard, but just imagine getting the doll in the mail or picking her out at the AG store. It will be totally worth it.

Good luck!

Comment here with your own ideas and I’ll put them up for all to see!

You can also offer to do your chores for $1 and its not a lot but, every bit counts.

Make rainbow loom bracelets!

Have different budgets. Separate your savings for your doll money apart from your spending money. That way, you wonโ€™t get confused and accidentally spend your doll budget money!

Hereโ€™s my tips-some of which I used to buy Brooke. (TM 59)
1. Save! Christmas money, birthday money, loose change, anything! I had like 8 dollars just from a bunch of quarters and nickels I found all over the house!
2. If youโ€™re not a fan of any other doll brands, at least check out their clothes. (OG, My Life As, Journey Girls, etc) They are less expensive and sometimes even better than AG clothes.
3. Have a lemonade stand. Be creative! My friend and I made $50 at a lemonade stand where we sold rainbow loom bracelets and cookies!
4. Be patient. Those $115 arenโ€™t going to just fall out of the sky! Be kind and remember that AG dolls are treated better when you put in the hard work and effort to buy them.
~Rutvi

I sell my old books that I donโ€™t want anymore. It makes money and it clears space on the shelf for my favorite books!ย Also you could make bookmarks. And when I go on a trip, unless Iโ€™m going someplace I might not go to again for ten years, I leave my wallet at home so Iโ€™m not tempted to buy anything!
~Daisy Mermaid

I made 1,000 dollars selling homemade key lime pies, I didnโ€™t spend on a doll, though, I paid for a plane ticket and camp ticket to go to a summer camp in NH.

So If you want a doll you could try selling pies.

I sold some old books to half-price books!

also, try buying a doll used/secondhand. [depending on the doll,] you won’t have to save up nearly as much money as a new one, plus there’s a chance you can get a doll thats been retired ๐Ÿ˜€ hope this helps ~JIMJ~

I made a schedule to clean the entire house in a week, and it gets me $20 per week and I get to keep $12 because $4 goes to savings, and then $4 to offering.

I also Memaw-sit (babysit my great grandma ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) and dogsit, and babysit my brother for extra money. And gardening! I’m going to take a free babysitting class this year so I can get certified and babysit neighbors and such. I’m going to do a craft fair this year too, and hopefully an etsy!

            I’m saving up for Caroline!

I actually got Kirsten from one of my friends who was selling her! I was looking on ebay but if they were in good condition the price was ridiculous and not in good condition…well I try not to look at those. ๐Ÿ˜›
My friend sold her to me for $100, cheaper than even from AG, so I feel I got a great offer! Besides — no shipping ๐Ÿ˜‰

I hate to be the one to tell you, but Caroline is retiring! click here I don’t know when, but probably with the introduction of Truly Me. Caroline is a truly beautiful and popular doll, I wish they wouldn’t retire her!

That is awesome! Kirsten is gorgeous…I wish I got her before she retired! She’s my 3rd fave AG doll! ^_^ Hey, you did get a great deal! ๐Ÿ˜€ What kind of condition was she in?

I heard that from Jaclynn, that’s why I’m saving up!! I have the money but I want to make sure I have enough just in case for like taxes and stuff and before they retire her see if I can find a coupon or sale or something! I missed the Jill’s Steals and Deals for her — I AM COMPLETELY BUMMED OUT BECAUSE I LOVE HER NIGHTGOWN SO I COULD”VE GOTTEN HER AD IT FOR $60! But alas, I’ll have to pay full price…:(

I know, I always miss out on the greatest deals too! They are never having sales on the dolls I want though *boohoo*

She had some weird white spot on her leg, but it wasn’t visible and the rest of her was in PRISTINE CONDITION. My friend NEVER used her! She brushed her hair with a regular hair brush (I was like questioning her the entire time..”why didn’t you use a doll brush?”) but she didn’t use her often so she only brushed it twice or so.

The hair was NOT CUT (thankfully) and no paint or pen marks or anything. It even came with (what she had) of her accessories!

How many AG’s do you have now? I know you have Kit, but what others? ๐Ÿ™‚

          • Amelia April 26, 2015 at 4:50 pm - Reply

I have 4 dolls! Kit, Kirsten, Samantha, and Molly. Samantha and Molly were from my sisters who ‘grew out’ of AG. 5 if you count my Our Generation doll, Joy (OG Retro). I have a wishlist: Caroline, the BeForever 2015 doll (GORGEOUS; as long as she’s real, which I think she is, but if she isn’t she’ll save me $115 lol), Josefina, and Rebecca. And the other historicals but the wishlist is my top 4.

OK! I hope you get all the dolls you want. Josefina is really gorgeous (well the Pre-BF version anyways, don’t know about the BeForever one) and you’ll really like her if/when you get her! ^_^

One more thing: the friend who sold Kirsten also has Rebecca. She sold Kirsten to me because she REALLY wanted an iPod, so if she ever wants something expensive again I’d be able to get Rebecca (on my wishlist). Other than that I don’t know anyone with AG dolls they want to get rid of.

          • Amelia April 27, 2015 at 1:37 pm - Reply

LOL Yup. Rebecca is in just as good condition, but missing some accessories. I don’t care about that. Her hair isn’t, say, brand new, but a doll brush would fix it up nicely!

          • Amelia April 28, 2015 at 4:30 pm - Reply

I slept over at her house when I got Kirsten, and saw Rebecca too. As I think I said, her hair needs brushing, but there isn’t any cut hair or paint or anything.

Madison, I love Kirsten too! I think she’s a super cute doll. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I wanted her Birthday Dress for Christmas the year she retired, but it was sold out. (But I got an AG gift card instead, so that was OK.) I do have Kirsten’s Story Collection, I bought it at a library book sale for only $1!! ๐Ÿ˜€ All 6 of her stories in one gigantic book…fantastic. ๐Ÿ˜‰ The illustrations are so amazing.

Thanks so much! I’m really excited too. I have about $43 dollars saved up to spend for her at the AGP. I’m thinking about getting her glasses and her ears pierced. And maybe an outfit if I have enough money lol. Mostly I’ll be seeing her wardrobe, because, it is much more special, less expensive, and you can customize it how you want!
Lol I could go on about how excited I am to get her! Sorry! XD

But I don’t guarantee that I will be getting one just yet, I might wait a little bit so when I buy one I will have some money left (I don’t want to be totally broke o.o) And my mom is going to ask my friend if she is looking into selling her Julie doll because she hasn’t been playing with her in a LONG time (Like a year :o) and I might get her with a discount!

My parents would never let me charge for massages…Once I did for my sister (who was fine with it) and my mom made me give it back. It was only $1 but she won’t let us pay for that or like making food (I mean they are the ones who buy the food :P). I earn money from cleaning ($12 a week to keep), mowing the lawns (depends on how well I do it, I’ve only been doing it for a few weeks but I’ve gotten better so I’ve been paid more) MORE petsitting (TWO THIS WEEK!!) and I’m hoping to mow some of my neighbors lawns. I can also weed the backyard but that takes a while for little pay, so it’s just an ‘extra’ I don’t require myself to do. I think I could wash a car..Dishes clean and dirty are our chores we already have to do. So no pay there. Same with folding blankets/towels. Our dad tells us to do it and there is no ‘pay me?’ involved, lol.

    • Amelia April 26, 2015 at 6:44 pm - Reply

I also want a garage sale (where we live it’s only on certain days because of silly laws so people don’t make ‘businesses’ out of garage sales. I mean isn’t the point of government to not butt into personal stuff? idk) but that isn’t until like June, and I’m hoping to get an Etsy shop over the summer! I wouldn’t be able to do an eBay shop because (a) *cough* I don’t get rid of stuffed animals or anything (garage sale I can do, and that’d be hard)…. and (b) I don’t think I’d be allowed to. I HAVE gotten stuff from eBay, but my dad doesn’t allow bidding ones, and BUY IT NOW’s are usually more expensive. Sometimes there are bids that no one’s seen so it’s super cheap and about to end…but I can do the BUY IT NOW’s if I pay for it myself (obviously) and my dad thinks I’m wasting my money, LOL. My dad doesn’t understand how much dolls mean to me.

I’m bored right now in case you can’t tell, I have to go petsit right now actually so I’ll be on the computer later!

(Aw, that stinks! I want to have a garage sale too… But since I live on a real quiet street, it probably wouldn’t get any business. Sigh)
Etsy shops are so cool! I want one, but Etsy takes I think at least like 15% of your profits? grr.
        Buy it Now’s are more expensive! ๐Ÿ™ I don’t like that -__-
LOL. Yeah, some people just don’t understand. ๐Ÿ™

LOL, OK! Good luck pet sitting! ๐Ÿ˜€

        • Amelia April 27, 2015 at 1:40 pm - Reply

It’s 3.5% according to the site. Later on I might just do it straight through my website (which I don’t have, LOL), but starting out, it’s just because I like doing it and I can earn some money doing it. I have to wait until summer though to think about it, because of school.

            Yeah ๐Ÿ™ You’re home-schooled, right?

          • Amelia April 27, 2015 at 2:56 pm - Reply

According to their site! I don’t have one yet, but I’ve been doing LOTS of research.

Yup, but here in CA there is no such thing as homeschooling. I’m TECHNICALLY “private schooled” LOL. Sometimes public schoolers ask what school I go to and tell them that I’m private schooled because it’s true and they think I’m stupid for being homeschooled…one girl asked me what 2 + 2 is! I am not kidding!

I go to a PSP, but I’m still homeschooled. ๐Ÿ™‚

WOW! Really? No such thing as…as….HOME SCHOOLING?! XD jk. Yeah, technically you are ‘private schooled’ :-).I used to go to a Christian Private School, but I HATED it. ๐Ÿ˜›

          • Amelia April 28, 2015 at 4:16 pm - Reply

WOW. What I go to is a church that has a PSP (private satellite program) and so I do school at home but once I week I take 4 classes (Tuesdays – PE [it’s not real PE, it’s mostly dodgeball], Sewing, Art, and Science) and the classes vary per year. BUT since homeschooling doesn’t technically exist here in CA, they are basically ignoring us. Which is good, or else they could make a law against it. It is SO not a real Private School.

        • Amelia April 27, 2015 at 1:48 pm - Reply

I got $5 yesterday and $10 the day before, so I get to keep $9! I haven’t split anything up into offerings and savings yet because I have no $1’s! LOL. But for my birthday I had a pretty big party and everyone gave me Target gift cards which my mom let’s me trade in for cash with her, so including the money I have and target gift cards I exchange for $$ I have enough for Caroline!! Still going to wait for a sale or like AG having free shipping or something (I’d like to go to the store but because of the traffic it’d be for birthday or a special debut), and then Caroline is mine!!

My family had a yard sale a few weeks ago, because my aunt’s town holds a big community yard sale every year. So I sold a bunch of books and stuff, usually most of the books sell, but a lot of them didn’t this year for some weird reason…. :-/ But on the other hand, I did make $17! So maybe a yard sale would be a good way to make money, Madison. If you advertise in the paper and stuff that might work. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Okey dokey! I hope she says yes. I once earned $4 in a day just doing an hour of massages. Another way to earn money, is to sell your services. Do you like cuties/halos/clementines? If your family eets them, offer to peel them for your family for $.25. I do that a lot. XD.
        Good luck! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

I love Halos! I don’t think I could earn $ for that though unless it was a penny…but a penny is still cash. I’m trying to save up to get both Caroline and Mary-Ellen. I’m going to ask for Rebecca for Christmas and Josefina for my birthday (If my friend doesn’t want to sell Rebecca)

February 14! Valentine’s day. ๐Ÿ™‚ I am going to start babysitting this summer (I’m 13) so even more ways to make money for dolls! Probably some will go towards accessories for dolls too. But I’m going to make a lot of their outfits.

Wow, really? That is incredibly cool! ๐Ÿ˜€ I’ve always wanted to be a babysitter – I am training as a ‘mother’s helper’ right now, sort of, I LOVE little kids. They aren’t THAT tiring, or crazy. I think I can handle them pretty well…. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Do you make doll outfits regularly, or just trying it? I love to sew, and my Aunt Annette is an awesome seamstress and helps me make great doll outfits! HOWEVER….She is back in Texas *cry* so whenever I need sewing advice I’ll just facetime her… ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been sewing for several years, and crafting is my ‘niche’ you could say. BUT people stuff costs SO much fabric, so one day I just used my scraps to make a doll dress and it turned out AMAZING! Now I’m hooked, and am trying out knit doll hats, crochet doll outfits, and sewn as well. I am in no way a pro yet, but that’s why I’m practicing! For Christmas I got a serger machine (super helpful and expensive) from my grandma, or else I would’ve gotten an AG doll. But with it, once I figure out how it works, it will make my edge seems more professional and it won’t get undone. I’ve used sergers before but I don’t know how to set it up, LOL.
I want to make a doll quilt, I’ve made people quilts, and I have lots of scraps. My grandma’s friend gave me a garage full of fabric and yarn, so I need to use those up with doll stuff. ๐Ÿ˜€

My dad is the same way with my brother and I – he likes playing this certain game, and he will pay me to do it. But my dad made me give it back (it was only one dollar as well.) -__- lol.
Haha yeah lol. I asked dad if one chore I was doing was part of my weekly allowance, and all he said was “How about just ’cause you live here?” XD I get $5 a week for taking care of our pool and other miscellaneous chores, and I just save up. Just keep saving and soon before you know it you will have a bunch of money!

      • Amelia April 27, 2015 at 1:44 pm - Reply

My dad didn’t get an allowance, growing up in a family of 9, so he doesn’t think we should, we should do chores because we live here. I mean yes, but I’m a kid and how else am I supposed to save up money? But my mom was one of only 2 kids so she gives allowances. No one else in my family does chores, which is a good thing because then I wouldn’t get to do them all and get $12!

We don’t have a pool. ๐Ÿ™ We live in socal and EVERYONE has pools, but my parents specifically didn’t buy a house with a pool. It’s probably better that way since we’re in a horrible drought…

Wow, that’s a lot of kids! That’s awesome you get to do them all to get twelve dollars… How much do you have saved up do far? ๐Ÿ™‚

Aw, sorry you’re in a drought! We had a lot back in Texas…but it wasn’t really bad. Here in Florida, we never, I repeat, NEVER have droughts. I reiterate for clarity – NEEEVVVEEERRRR. It is so moist, and humid, and hot. I don’t like the weather here.

Whoops. There I go on my anti-Florida ranting. XD

          • Amelia April 27, 2015 at 2:50 pm - Reply

LOL, yeah they say we only have a years worth of water left. Because I’m the person cleaning, when there are cups of water on the table no one will drink I dump them onto plants, and I take short showers, etc, I do not want to contribute to a crisis. I am praying for LOTS OF RAIN.

After this week I’ll have $103, plus $55 in target gift cards I can trade in!

Really? I am praying that won’t happen. I don’t think it will…there is a perfect water cycle…Hope that doesn’t happen. XD.

YAY! So happy for you! I asked my dad if I could trade in my $30 Target gift card and he said YES! I just have to wait until the first of the month to get my cash for it though -__- lol.

          • Amelia April 28, 2015 at 4:28 pm - Reply

Yeah, I agree, but I also think that God gave us just enough so there is no point in wasting it! We live right near the ocean, can’t people just filter it? I don’t know how it works, but GOD is in control so I do my part and try not to worry.

            CONGRATS! More AG fund? ๐Ÿ˜€

Ooh, I do that sometimes when I get Target gift cards!! I get A LOT for Christmas/birthdays (apparently my aunts and uncles all really like to go to Target XD), and sometimes I don’t want to spend all my money just at Target. So then my mom uses the gift card and pays me back in cash! ๐Ÿ˜€

I looked on eBay for the saige 2013 GOTY and she was like $199! Maybe I will just wait for Christmas instead.

I asked my mom if I can do any chores to get money but she said no. I used all of the ideas that you have but she said no to all of them. Any ideas I can get money easily?

    • Emily May 28, 2015 at 8:29 pm - Reply

Wait actually I found an idea how to make money. I asked my mom why and she said that this summer if I do my chores without complaining I will get to go to The AG Store! yay I am so excited! She said next summer I could do chores to earn money like I did last year. But this summer I get to go to the AG store. My parents are letting me do a lemonade stand this summer too! So maybe I will actually make money. I am going to save up for a saige doll. It will be my sixth doll!

Have different budgets. Separate your saving for your doll money apart from your spending money. That way, you won’t get confused and accidentally spend your doll budget money!

Here’s my tips-some of which I used to buy Brooke. (TM 59)

    1. Save! Christmas money, birthday money, loose change, anything! I had like 8 dollars just from a bunch of quarters and nickels I found all over the house!

    2. If you’re not a fan of any other doll brands, at least check out their clothes. (OG, My Life As, Journey Girls, etc) They are less expensive and sometimes even better than AG clothes.

    3. Have a lemonade stand. Be creative! My friend and I made $50 at a lemonade stand where we sold rainbow loom bracelets and cookies!

    4. Be patient. Those $115 aren’t going to just fall out of the sky! Be kind and remember that AG dolls are treated better when you put in the hard work and effort to buy them. ๐Ÿ™‚

Also you could make bookmarks. And when I go on a trip, unless I’m going someplace I might not go to again for ten years, I leave my wallet at home so I’m not tempted to buy anything! Because I can’t! Get it? *crickets chirping* *sigh*

I made 1,000 dollars selling homemade key lime pies, I didn’t spend on a doll, though, I paid for a plane ticket and camp ticket to go to a summer camp in NH.

So If you want a doll you could try selling pies.
