XD Okay, okay.

Are you ready for part 2? Oh, and since it’s been a while (I can officially say I haven’t posted a photostory since LAST YEAR :o XD), here’s part 1 if you need a refresher! :D I hope you enjoy! ❤️

In the POV of Taryn

Ellie was reaching behind the second Christmas tree, the one lit up with colorful, twinkling lights. Hidden in its boughs was a white-and-red stocking with a candy cane inside. “I wonder how this got here,” she told me. “Maybe someone knew you were coming.

“Merry Christmas, Taryn,” Ellie smiled as she handed me the only Christmas present I had received that day.

“Thanks,” I mumbled. “You, too.”

Jasmine spoke up next. “I’ll show you to our room, Taryn.”

That’s when Cécile announced, “Everyone else, stay and clean up!”

The others groaned, but Jasmine was smiling to herself as she led me from the party room and toward their bedroom, pleased to have gotten away from having to help clean up.

When Jasmine and I stepped into their room, I thought I was going to burst. Jasmine stay behind for a second while I just kept walking in awe; was I really going to have to be sisters with seven other girls I had never known before? I stopped in my tracks, staring at their cozy, happy beds and the delightful room they all shared happily together. They didn’t feel like family; they weren’t my family; they would never be my family. How on earth was I going to do this?

That’s when I decided that I wouldn’t.

The plan of plans began forming in my mind, giving me the slightest glimmer of hope like the beam of light at the end of a dark tunnel. I wouldn’t do this.

Jasmine slowly walked up to me. “You can have that top right bunk,” she explained gently. Then she grinned. “I can squish on the fold-out bed with Emelie and Josefina.”

Just keep up the charade, I told myself. It’s not much longer. I nodded. “Okay. Thanks.”

When I had neared the bunk bed Jasmine mentioned, I placed my blue suitcase on the carpet and I reached up to hang my messenger bag on the post. I knew I wasn’t going to stay here for long, but I had to act like I would.

When I turned around, I saw Jasmine transporting an armload of folded socks from a nearby set of drawers. “You can put some of your clothes in here,” she informed me. “If you have any clothes that need hanging or won’t fit in these drawers, you can hang them up in the closet.”

I nodded again, not knowing what else to say rather than, “Okay. Thanks.”

“I’m going to go get ready for bed,” Jasmine let me know. “You can go ahead and unpack, if you want.”

For the millionth time, I nodded. “Okay. Thanks.”

Jasmine gave me a sweet smile before turning and walking off toward the closet, and I inwardly sighed to myself. I knew I could keep up the act, there was no doubt – big sis had always told me I was a great actress. But I felt bad about fooling such nice, sweet people…

Either way, I lifted my blue suitcase to the top of the dresser and began to unpack my belongings.

A pair of shorts, some black, warm winter leggings, a couple pairs of sandals…

Unpacking is just as messy as packing is, I realized to myself as I stuffed my red, sparkly sequined skirt that I really didn’t like into a drawer. With a grunt, I shoved it shut.

Once my foldable clothes had been pressed into the dresser with my sandals and boots placed neatly on top and on the sides, I turned to the bunk bed posts again to hang my beloved hats.

My nice dress I hung up in the closet alongside my blue winter coat, and then I sighed in relief. I’m moved in now. This is perfect.

I looked up at Jasmine, who had popped up again and was wearing some rather warm-weathered PJ’s. “It doesn’t get very cold in the house at nights,” she explained with a wink. “We like to turn the heat up nice and toasty.”

I nodded. Again.

“Well, er, I’m going to go see if they need anymore help cleaning up that crazy party room,” Jasmine excused herself, feeling a tad guilty for leaving the others with all that mess. “You must be tired, so if you want, you could go ahead and get ready for bed. We’ll all be in here in a minute.”

“I was just about to ask you about that,” I spoke up quickly before she turned to leave. Racking my brain for something non-suspicious, I asked, “Could I, uh, borrow some PJs? I think I accidentally left mine.”

Jasmine beamed. “Oh, of course! What’s ours is yours! I’ll find some for you real quick.” She turned to the wardrobe and opened a drawer, pulling out some pretty pajamas for me.

“Here you go,” she handed me a lacy nightshirt and some cozy PJ pants. “Will these do?”

“Of course,” I returned her smile. “Thanks.”

“No problem! I’ll be back with everyone else in a little bit.”

I watched as Jasmine left, waiting until she had well turned that corner before making my next move.

In a flash, I shoved the PJs underneath the bottom bunk. She’ll never expect a thing, I smiled to myself, though I didn’t feel like smiling. No one will.

I hastily pulled off my boots and scampered up the bunk bed ladder.

I huddled under the covers, reaching to completely pull them up and all around me. I’ll pretend to be so worn out and exhausted from everything that I’m already asleep by the time they arrive, I rehearsed my break-out plan in my mind.

This is the right thing to do. I know she would approve. She wants to see me. This is the right thing.

But as I pulled the blanket further up to disguise the fact I was not wearing pajamas, I began to have second thoughts.

Is it?
