Molly here – here’s the third part of The New Girl….it’s a part that totally. changes. everything.
Josefina and I were going shopping at the New Mexican market–Josefina MADE me wear her clothes so I would fit right in. “But it’s 2013, not 1824,” I whined. “Hey, it’s a historical market,” Josefina told me. “Besides, it’s fun dressing up.” I shrugged, she was right. Meanwhile, I heard sniffling. Someone was crying! “I’ll be right back,” I told Josefina.
UH OH. It was Priscilla Venus – that mean Barbie who had bullied me, tried to hang poor Coconut and hurt Molly-Anne. She was popular everywhere. But….why was she crying? Still, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her. To see the endless tears trickle down her cheeks touched my heart.
I came toward her. “P-P-Priscilla?” I asked. Priscilla looked at me and turned her head away, still sobbing. I repeated myself. “Priscilla?”
Priscilla just bursted into another round of sobs.
Finally she answered. “My parents,” she breathed. “They….they got a divorce.” My heart stireed for sympathy at her words. “Oh my gosh,” I muttered. “I’m so sorry.”
“Oh no! That’s terrible,” Josefina came in on the scene. Priscilla managed a small smile. “Thank you for your sympathy,” she murmured. “But I don’t deserve it.”
“My parents have been thinking about their divorce for a long, long time. It’s just put so much pressure on me and I’ve taken it all out on everyone else, thinking popularity and jokes and pranks and rudeness and etcetera would help my hurt. But no, it only made it worse. I’m so sorry for everything I’ve done–Could you ever forgive me?” There was a long, uncomfortable silence. Was I willing to let go of all the hurt, anger, anxiety and fear this girl had caused me? Was she truly sorry? Was this just a trick?
