You might want to read PART 1 and PART 2 if you haven’t already.IMG_4817It was just an ordinary day the day that I met Dijournua. Sheila and I(Marzette) were taking pictures of each other…..

IMG_4819……running barefoot through the grass…….

IMG_4820……and lying on the ground, just talkin’.

IMG_4821Then we heard, “FOOOOOOOD, FOOD FOR SALE! PROFITS GO TO A GOOD CAUSE! FOOOOOOOD!”

IMG_4822We ran to see what all the fuss was about. “Hi! I’m Dijournua McDouglas and I’m selling pizza, toast ‘n jelly, cookies and watermelon to raise money for a great cause. Would you like to buy anything today?” the girl who was selling the goodies introduced herself. “Hi there Dijournua. I’m Marzette and this is my friend Sheila! May we ask what cause is the money going toward?” I asked her. “I’m supporting missionaries in Peru.” she answered proudly. “Awesome,” I said, slapping a five-dollar-bill on the table. “We’ll take the two cookies, and keep the change.”

“Thanks! God bless you!” Dijournua called after us after we took our cookies.

IMG_4823We got home and nibbled on our cookies. “Wasn’t that nice of that girl Dijournua, selling baked goods and fruit to help missionaries?” I asked Sheila, taking a bite of my cookie. “Yeah, I guess,” she answered absent-mindedly, picking a chocolate chip off the cookie and popping it into her mouth.

“No, seriously. I admire that. What an awesome cause….” I trailed off. I finished my cookie, chewing slowly, pondering on my new idea…

IMG_4824“THAT’S IT!” I cried, sprouting up like a seed in the sunshine. “What’s it?” asked Sheila, her curious eyes shining with wonder. “I know what I’m going to do. Forever and ever unless God has a different plan. I’m raising money for missionaries, just like Dijournua!”

“Awesome, can I help?” Sheila asked, getting excited. “Oh yeah! I’d love it if you could help!”

IMG_4825Sheila, Dijournua and I became

like rock, paper and scissors. Like bread, peanut butter and jelly. Like chocolate syrup, milk, and a mixing spoon…OK, enough metaphors. We all became BFF’s! We made jewelry, bought fruit, and baked goodies. At first we only got a few toddlers to buy cookies.

IMG_4826But then more and more people came, even girls our age and grown-ups! In one month, we made over $1,000 dollars to help missionaries.

IMG_4827Here, doing something I felt good about, with friends…and new parents….I felt like I belonged. I finally came to realize the past is in the past and let go of the hurt and sadness of wishing my old mom was still alive. My old mom…in Heaven…would want me to be happy here. And I am. My new mom, which I am finally able to call mom, helped me decorate my room and I think my parents are the best parents in the world.

IMG_4828Yup. I belong.

I BELONG.
