Does anybody get annoyed at my long titles? XD
Madi here! I am super excited to be sharing these fall-themed pictures with you today as we say goodbye to the season of autumn (Happy first day of winter, everybody! Not much has changed here in the means of degrees, sadly…) I took this photoshoot of Emelie during this recent Thanksgiving trip to Texas I went on. It was my very first time using a “professional” camera at our home in Texas – there were so many absolutely beautiful places that I just couldn’t capture the beauty of with the iPhones and/or iPad mini I used! I wasn’t able to take photos at as many places as I would’ve liked, but that’s okay. I’ll take even more next time we go!
If you didn’t already know, I was born in Texas and lived there until we moved to Florida in December of 2014. My family and I have lived in Texas all our lives and that’s where our ministry was originally launched, so we still have churches, partners, friends and family there. That means we make trips back often (YAY!). And if you didn’t already know, Texas is the most amazing place in the world, the closest place on earth you could get to how Heaven will feel like, and I wish every day I still lived there. ?
But I never got anywhere in life by being sad about leaving my one and only earthly home, so I’ll stay positive and productive with my blog. I have big plans for DWOD. ?
Moving on! XD
This will be a post like none other! *rubs hands together mischievously* I’m calling it a photoshoot smash. Two photoshoots from two different places in one post, but with the same theme! Interesting, right? I hope you like it! I also hope you like gazing at pretty pictures (I do! ?), because there are millions quite a few (even after I did some serious editing down and choosing only my favorites)! :P
We shall start with Farewell to Fall. I hope you enjoy! :D
Farewell to Fall
I took these pictures right after church (in case you didn’t know, my parents were the associate pastors, therefore we lived in our church parsonage, which is literally right next to our church, so my church’s property was my back and front yards, which was fantastic. Whew! *takes breath* ?). I couldn’t wait to snap my very first picture with the 60D, and this was it! My best friend was already freezing cold as I took this first picture and told me she hoped it wouldn’t be take long, which I assured it wouldn’t.
It did. XD
Isn’t she so pretty? I just wish I had taken the time to make sure she was looking at the camera more. :P
Ahh, boots! *sighs dreamily* The best shoes ever.
Grass, glorious grass! ?
Do you see that patch of brown grass in the background? Doesn’t that look weird in contrast to the green grass where Emelie is standing? LOL!
*sighs* Why isn’t she looking at the camera? :P
SHE STILL ISN’T LOOKING DIRECTLY AT IT. :P
I like this one…
… But I really like this one!
I have always wanted to take pictures of a doll in this tree! It’s rumored to have poison ivy, and I wanted to find out if that was true (but that’s not why I wanted to take pictures there XD). I’ve now proved that it does not. ?
I took this picture right as she was falling! It was super windy and cold that day (I loved it, though! ♥), and our dolls kept falling over and it took forever to get the right pictures, but I think they turned out pretty good!
Our dolls, you ask?
My best friends brought their dolls, too! Allie brought one of her dolls, Caitlin (#39 on the left) and Piper brought one of her dolls, Caroline. Even though none of them are looking at the camera *sigh* we were too cold to care. XD It just kind of looks like they’re having random conversations. ?
Caroline: Lovely weather isn’t it?
Emelie: That’s a pretty fly.
Caitlin: Nice flats, Caroline. Why aren’t you wearing boots?
Caroline: *hums and does not look at Caitlin*
Emelie: I’m cold.
“And I refuse to look at the camera!”
Aren’t they so cute? My BFFs suggested this pose!
We took quite a few pictures on this cement cylinder thingy! AND EMELIE IS NOT LOOKING AT THE CAMERA. I thought she was when I checked the picture, but apparently not. That frustrates me to no end. XD My BFFs and I still really love the pictures, though! We are going to make that top right one in the collage the background for our phones (I took it portrait-style instead of landscape).
We tried placing all three of our dolls here, but they would not cooperate. They liked falling on top of each other or knocking each other down, and the blasting gale did not help either. Our dolls seemed to think it was funny. We did not. :P After fifteen minutes with Emelie being the only one to stand up well, we decided to just have her do the pose. But even then, right as I was about to snap the picture, she’d fall down! This happened multiple times before I achieved the desired picture above. XD
Except she’s not looking at the camera. :P
Ahh, more boots! ?
She looks so dreamy! :D
I love the way the wind is sweeping her hair.
I previously considered myself the master of balancing dolls, but I was no match for the twenty-minute trial that I fought with the wind that day. I tried to get Emelie to where she was walking like this by herself on the A-beam of our swingset, but that just didn’t work out. Right as she would balance, the wind would knock her down. Believe me, I tried every position imaginable. I finally reluctantly rested her against the upward beam of it and took this closeup shot as my brother arrived on the scene and ordered politely asked me to hurry up. :P ;)
We took some more photos of all three of our dolls hanging out the side of Fort M&R (the swing-less fort :P) and I finally took this last one.
And she’s very close looking at the camera, but not perfectly. :P
I hope you enjoyed Farewell to Fall! The next photoshoot is my absolute favorite one I’ve ever done, and a few of the pictures are in my opinion the best ones I’ve ever taken! I hope you enjoy! :D
Now introducing…
The Last of the Autumn Aura
Allie and I drooled over this picture! I love everything about this pic except Emelie’s hair. :P
These pictures were taken at my second favorite park in Texas! It has always been my dream to take pictures here with the good camera. And I LOVE how they turned out! I hope you like them, too – keep scrolling!
Pretty, pretty ?
I may or may not be slightly obsessed with sun rays and light streaks. ;)
ASDFGHJKL THIS IS MY FAVORITE PICTURE I’VE EVER TAKEN :D
Well, I don’t know. There’s one coming up that might top it… but I really, really love this one. ?
It is with this picture that I now know what takes doll photography to the next level. The picture is (in my opinion, at least!) pretty, yes. Good lighting, yes. Focused and sharp, yes. There’s bokeh, even. But what really makes your pictures stand apart from the rest?
Poses. See how Emelie is just leaning up against the tree? BORING! Even though the picture is good quality-wise, Emelie isn’t doing anything but leaning up against a tree. A different angle would’ve been better, but if she was doing an interesting pose – resting her hand on it while looking the other way or something like that – would’ve made it 100 times cuter!
Well, that was a random blurb of newly-discovered information about doll photography. XD
Allie really liked this one! Doesn’t Emelie look like she’s walking down a leafy path? Maybe that’s because she is. XD
My favorite picture EVER is coming up! I hope you’ll like it, because I LOVE it! :D
*sighs in admiration* I LOVE HER POSE, THE BOKEH, THE LIGHTING… EVERYTHING. :D
I really love this picture, too! As I was editing it last night, my dad could not believe that I had taken this shot and he mentioned that I should enter a photography contest, but my professional photographer sister laughed and said it was a very easy shot to get. XD And it is. :P
I adore this one as well! But another one of my very favorites is coming up…
One of my favorites! I love this one. I tried so hard to get the camera to where she was looking at it, and I took around twenty photos, but they didn’t work out. Oh well! :P This was my favorite out of them. :P
She’s so close to looking at the camera perfectly! *wails* :P
The park we were at has a super awesome creek that is so beautiful for taking pictures! I really want to come back in the summer for lots of awesome summer shots. I can see it now… way better poses, water bokeh, reflections… ?
I really like this one, and so did my dad!
So pretty! ?
My family and friends all got impatient with me as we took a walk through the park trail. I kept stopping to take photos. XD
Toward the end of the trail, there was this huge place… I don’t even know how to describe it. At the bottom of an extremely steep hill, there was this railing, and beyond the railing down far below were rocks (with a wire net over them! Whaaa?) all leading down and descending to pretty lake! Here is Emelie standing on the bottom of that railing below the rails (like that makes any sense XD) with some pretty leaves in her path. :D
Last picture! After I snapped this one, my BFFs and I speed-walked to catch up with my family as we left the park, singing our new BFF song all the way. ♥ *sighs again* I miss my home.
But ain’t nobody got time for that! ?
I won’t ask you to choose your favorite picture (that would be ridiculous XD), but how about choosing your favorite out of my favorites?

Which picture do you like best? 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5? And what was your favorite part about fall? Are you excited for winter and for Christmas? :D ?

P.S. YAY! :D
You’re welcome! I’m so jealous. :P Heehee, JUST kidding! XD But seriously, they are AMAZING!!!!
LOL! XDXD Thank you SO much, Grace!! :D :D
Amazing pictures, Madison!!!!!! <3
Thank you SO much, Kaitlyn! :D :D
Madi, you really outdid yourself! They are AMAZING!!!!
That means so much! Thank you SO much, Alyse! I am so very glad you like them!
Oh and my favorite is 2
I like that one, too! :D
Wow! I really want a camera now! I like 1&2! You did good! What kind of camera do you have?
?-Kiki-?
Thank you so much! You should totally get one! :D I use a Canon EOS 60D.
You’re very welcome! I’m trying to save up for one now! Ok, thank you!?
?-Kiki-?
Ooh, that is awesome! Good luck! And you’re welcome! :D
Your photos are GORGEOUS! Amazing job! (and, no, I don’t mind long titles :-D ) I like 1 and 2 best, but of those two, uhhh, 1? They’re both soooo pretty! That is a great tip about the doll’s position to make a great photo! And I really like Emelie’s first outfit! (Her second one is gorgeous, too!)
I was wondering… So I just got a new camera, and I was wondering what you did to make a great quality photo that doesn’t take up pounds of space on your blog? I had to edit all of the photos in my last post just to change the size. I think I have an idea of what to do, but I was just curious as to what you did. :-)
~Gracie
Thank you SO very much, Gracie! :D I am super glad you liked them! :D :D
Ooh, I saw your new post about your new camera in my reader! I haven’t checked out the entire thing yet, but from what I saw, your pictures are FANTABULOUS! :D Actually, I use the full size option on my pictures, so they take up TONS of space. Like, many servers won’t host my website because it’s insanely large. A few days ago, my dad installed a plugin for me called WP Smush It that downsizes the size of the images without reducing the quality, and it works fabulously! I would suggest that for all of your new pictures! :D
Your welcome!
Aw thank you so so much!
Oh, wow! It’s great that WordPress can host it! (WordPress, right?). I’ll look up WP Smush! Thanks for the idea!
You’re so welcome! I actually use GoDaddy to host my website, but we’re trying to find a faster one (because my site is very slow :P) that will host all of these images! :P I hope WP Smush works for you! No problem!
Oh ok! Good luck!
I looked it up, and since I don’t have a purchased plan for my wordpress, I don’t think I’m able to add any plugins, but if I ever get a domain, perhaps I’ll try Smush! Thanks anyways!
~Gracie
Thank you! :D
Oh, okay! I hope you’re able to find a solution that works for you! Actually, I just that of something that might help. Try going to you camera’s quality settings and choose a smaller form of JPEG. I used to have mine on the largest setting possible, which was 5184×3456, and it took FOREVER to upload. I switched it to the JPEG setting of “S1”, which is only 2592×1728. It’s still quite a large file, but the pictures upload faster, are still great quality, and are definitely smaller. Maybe changing the JPEG settings to a smaller size would help!
Thanks! I think that’s actually what I did for my most recent post, and it seemed to work fine! Perhaps I can play around with it. Thanks again!
~Gracie
You’re welcome! And ah, okay! Hope you find the perfect solution! :D
Madi, this is fabulous! I like number 2 the best! And that dress…:) I need to do a photo shoot in my woods…
Great job!:)
Thank you so very much, Kendall! I am so glad you like it! :D
These are so GAH!!! I can’t even explain how good these are!
I love picture #2 it looks like Emilie is a princess who loves nature!
My favourite part of autumn would have to be the leaves there are so many photographic possibilities with them!
Peace to the world- Lucky ?
Aw, thank you SO much, lucky! :D
I know, right? Leaves are so pretty!
Madi!!!!! Photos are so beautiful! The lighting is amazing! Wow! We love them. We love the 1 and 2! Can’t stop looking at them!
Thank you so very much, Tori and Bella! I am so very glad you like them! :D :D
Np
:D
AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THESE PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most crazily, ~Olive

Those are really pretty photos! I like them all. I had such a great Autumn, and now I’m looking forward to some snow. ;)
CutePolarBear
Thank you so much, CutePolarBear! :D Ooh, snow! I hope you have fun in it if/when it comes. ;)
These are the most gorgeous photos I have ever seen in my life, no kidding. And I like your long titles! They’re poetic, pretty, and very creative. And they’re all so unique! My favorite of these photos is definitely number one. The bokeh! *dies and then comes back to life only to die yet again (and so on) over Madi’s photography skills* Can you please pretty please do a post with photography tips, especially for taking photos indoors? Also, what camera do you use? Thank you so much for your help! And yet again, I adore these photos with my heart and soul. And my brain, too. XD ??
Oh my goodness, thank you SO SO SO much, Izzy! That means so very much! I am super duper glad you like them! :D :D And I will totally do a photography tips post sometime! It’s on my list of posts to make. :D I use a Canon EOS 60D! Aw, you’re welcome, and thank YOU, Izzy! Hehe! ?
Also, do you have any blogging tips for us new and inexperienced bloggers? And you’re welcome.
Wow, you must be peeking into all of my to-post lists! XD I’m hoping to post a blogging tips post not long after the new year! :D
I LOVE all of them, but 1 is my favourite…maybe? I. CAN’T. CHOOSE. Madi…you’re torturing me! How do I choose?
Wait, maybe 2? No, 4! 5? Oh, forget it. I’m never gonna be able to choose.
LOL! Aw, thank you SO much! And hehehe! XD I am so glad you like them! Thank you so much, Miri! :D
Madiiii! *squeals* The lighting! And the bokeh! *flails helplessly*
LOL! :D :D I am super duper glad you like the pictures – thanks so much, Sara! :D
♫ HELPLESS ♫
(Sorry Madi, I’m plaguing you with my Hamilton obsession. ???)
LOL! I have no idea what you are talking about, but I am sure it is a hilarious Hamilton reference. So I shall laugh. ???
LOLOL! ? Well, thanks for putting up with me. :P
LOL! ? Aw, I love your comments. ?
Oh, my goodness!!! You should be a professional photographer for American Girl!!! Seriously, I don’t know how you got such amazing, professional pictures!! AHHH! My fav. of your favs. was #3, it’s simply marvelous!!!
I love it!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
My favorite part about fall was pretty leaves and pumpkins, and I'm absolutely thrilled for Winter and Christmas!! It's been snowing here a lot so we probably have over a foot by now, and it rained a little (NOOOOOO!!!), but hopefully that made the snow wet so I can go make a snowman, that'll be fun!!
Yesterday, I dressed Caroline and Lara (she's my other doll, she isn't an AG but she is similar, except she is like 21 inches) up for Christmas! They're sitting on the pink wood bed my Dad made me, with Grace and Rebecca! It looks so cute!
I was wondering, how do you get your dolls hair to look so beautiful? My dolls are having frizzling, which I don't like. :(
Sorry if this comment is super long, LOL! ;)
Thank you SO much, Livy! That means so much to me! You literally just made me smile so much! Thank you, thank you, thank you times a billion! ❤❤❤
I love the pretty leaves, too! And I love pumpkins especially when they are in food… like pumpkin spice muffins. Hehe! Yum! Oh my goodness, SNOW? I’m so jealous! LOL! Have fun making that snowman if the snow is wet enough! :D
Aw, your dolls sound SO cute! And isn’t Caroline such a beautiful doll? I am regretting not getting her now! :P
I mist their hair a lot with water and style it constantly during photoshoots/stories so their hair looks nice. Before I brush or do any style at all, I always mist with water – that preserves their hair and won’t cause frizzies or dryness. I’m actually planning on making a post on how to keep doll hair looking beautiful soon after the New Year, so maybe that will help you, too! :D
LOL! I don’t mind long comments at all! Thank you so much again, Livy! :D
Aww, you’re welcome! I enjoy making people happy! :D
Oh, neat! I’ve made Pumpkin Apple Struesel Muffins a couple times before, they’re awesome! Have you had them? Do you like pumpkin pie? I <3 it! :P
Yes! Caroline is super pretty! ;) Yeah, I was pretty un-happy when they discontinued her… :( Do you like the new doll MaryEllen? I love her! I want to get her sometime maybe…. ;)
Oh, okay! That makes sense, I'll have to try that! I could email you a couple pics of my dolls, would you like that? I'm looking forward to that post, and especially the one about the dolls present theif!
That's great! :D Have you ever been to Idaho? That's where I live, but you already knew that, LOL! :D
Hehe, same here! I like leaving sweet comments, too! :D
Mmm, Pumpkin Apple Streusel Muffins sound delicious! I don’t think I’ve had one, but they sound awesome. And oh, of course! How could I forgot pumpkin pie? XD I love pumpkin pie (especially with lots of whipped cream!). XD
She sure is! Same here. :( Maryellen is super cute! My Floridian friend in real life has her and she is adorable! I hope you’re able to get her sometime… ;)
Oooh, I would LOVE that! :D And thank you so much! I finished it last night and have it scheduled for the 23rd (I’m hoping everyone likes it!)! :D
Nope, I’ve never been to Idaho! I do want to visit all fifty states eventually, though… :D LOL! :D
Oh, when I email you, I can send you the recipe if you’d like? :) I’ll have to go take some good ones of the dolls, although be prepared, they won’t be half as good as yours!! LOL!
Neat! I’ve always wanted to visit all 50 states too! I used to live in Florida actually, I lived there for the first 5 years of my life! I don’t remember too much about it… do you enjoy going to the beach? That’s one of the things I remember, the smell of the ocean! :)
Yay! I’m really looking forward to that post! :D
Do you have any pets? We have a dog and he loves the snow, he’ll roll in it, and push it around with his nose! LOL! He’s super cute! :D
Absolutely! That’d be fantastic! :D LOL! Aw, I’m sure they’re awesome! :D
Wow, really? That is so cool! We don’t go to the beach a whole ton, but when we do, I really like it! :D
Thank you so much! And no, I don’t have any pets, but I wish, haha! My mom is allergic to both cats and dogs, but my dad is wanting to get a hypoallergenic poodle for the whole family to take care of. That should be interesting! LOL! Oh my goodness, your dog sounds so cute!! LOL! :D :D
Aww, well, I hope you might be able to get a poodle! :D Beorn is sooooo cute, he is a mix of Norwegian Elkhound and Black Labrador, and he cute and stocky! Ha-ha!
I will find the recipe and include it in the email! I will email you either later today or tomorrow, but unfortunately I have to go now… Sorry! Hopefully we can chat another time!! :D
TTYL!! Merry Christmas! :D
I hope so, too! I have always wanted a dog. :D Awww, he sounds adorable! LOL! :D
Okay! Thanks so much! And no problem! It was so awesome to chat with you, Livy! TTYL! Merry Christmas! :D :D
I think my favorite is number two, but they are all lovely! Autumn is my favorite season, it’s the perfect weather – at least up here in New Hampshire. Not roasting hot but not freezing cold. :P
Great pictures!
~Lydia~ <3
Aw, thank you so much, Lydia! Ooh, autumn sounds so beautiful up there! It’s pretty much just like summer down here in Florida… I like it better in Texas. XD
Thanks again, Lydia!
Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!! I love these photoshoots!!!! They’re so beautiful where did you get the outfit for your doll the first photoshoot?
~Kara
Thank you SO much, Kara! :D Her first outfit consists of:
Top: My best friends let me borrow it for her. The shirt is from THIS outfit.
Skirt: Retired American Girl Molly’s meet outfit skirt
Tights: From an American Girl tights set I bought in 2014
Boots: American Girl Saige’s meet outfit boots
My favorite is three. WOOHOO!!!!!! CHRISTMAS IS SO CLOSE!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so glad you like it! AND I KNOW, RIGHT?! :D
I like #1 a whole bunch! It’s like she is looking back at her life or something.
Thank you so very much, Holly! :D :D
Love those photos! I’m always amazed at how you’re able to balance the dolls. My dolls don’t go anywhere without a stand and even then they fall down! I think Emile is camera shy that’s why she won’t look at it. She has to pretend it doesn’t exist! I love her in the Carpatina dress though so No. 2 is my fav. I love all the pics where her hair is blowing.
Thank you so much, Heather! :D Haha, that’s probably why she never looked at it! Thank you so much again!
I like 2 and 5, but really, they’re all beautiful! Thanks for sharing! :-)
Thank you SO much, PolkaDotPatriot! :D
Wow, these photos are gorgeous, Madison! Of your favorites, I really like the first two. They’re so pretty!! :D
Aw, thank you so very much, Christian Homeschooler! I am really glad you like them! :D
These are SO PRETTY! ~Mya
Thank you SO much, Mya! :D
Ahhhhh…i can’t pick!! There all so beautiful!! And those photo-shoots were absolutely stunning!! Keep up the amazing photography!!
LOL! I can’t pick, either! Aw, thank you SO much, AGfan! You’re so sweet! :D
Thanks!! XDXD
You’re welcome! XD
Oh my Madison! These are GORGEOUS! I love the idea of a photo shoot smash, and you absolutley cracked me up about Emily not looking at the camera- I have that problem with group pictures.. :P
The 3 friends dialogue was hilarious too.
Emelie looks so cute in the outfit in Autumn aura- Do you happen to remember where you got it?
The sun rays are MAGICAL Madison, I loved picture 5. Your photography is so utterly amazing-do you have any tips!
Loved it!
-Sam
Thank you SO much, Sam! Hehe! I’m glad you thought it was funny! XD My best friends actually let me borrow the dress for the shoot, but I know it is from a company called Carpatina. Hold on, let me find out for you…
Alright, I’m back! It’s called the”Celtic Princess gown” and it is from Carpatina.com. :D
Aw, thank you SOOOO much, Sam! That means so much! I’m hoping to do a photography tips post sometime shortly after the new year, but I’d be glad to answer any questions you have about photography anything! LOL! Thank you so much again! :D
Beautiful photos! I think the dolls not looking is cute! I like 2 and 3.
-Morgan
Thank you so much, Morgan! :D And I’m glad you liked them! :D
I hope you’ll be able to see this! I just wanted to let you know that there’s a problem with my comments on your blog and I think one or tow of them may have made it to spam… This happens to me a lot. :P
